PRIVACY AND SECURITY POLICY

Canadian Homeownershiprecognizes the importance of building trusting relationships with our customers. We believe that building trust begins with protecting the privacy and confidentiality of your personal information, which is fundamental to the way we do business at Canadian Homeownership.

Accordingly, Canadian Homeownership is committed to protecting the confidentially and privacy of personal information thatCanadian Homeownershipcollects and uses in the course of its commercial activities.

This Privacy Policy sets out: (1) the purposes for which we collect, use and disclose your personal information throughout the purchase of Canadian Homeownership’s Service and use of Canadian Homeownership’s Services (the “Service”) via CanadianHomeownership.com (the “Site”); (2) the type of personal information that we collect; (3) how we use and disclose that information; (4) how we obtain your consent to the collection, use and disclosure of that information; (5) how we secure and retain that information; and (6) how you may access your personal information.

We regularly re-evaluate our privacy and security policies and adapt them as necessary to deal with new challenges.

For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, “personal information” means any information about an identifiable individual.

1.      Your Consent

Canadian Homeownershipmay collect, use or disclose personal information in the manner described below where we have the required consent from you, the Canadian Homeownership Customer. Except as otherwise permitted by law, Canadian Homeownershipwill ensure that it has the required consent prior to the collection, use or disclosure of your personal information, as described below.

When a user fills out a submission form on our site or completes a shopping cart transaction, Canadian Homeownership will assume that the user consents to the collection, use and disclosure of their personal information, for the purposes which we have set out above, unless notified otherwise.

A customer may withdraw his or her consent at any time, by contacting our Privacy Officer in the manner set out below.

2.      Collection of Personal Information: Purchasing the Service

Canadian Homeownership will use the personal information collected at the point of sale to process and complete the customer’s order, including for shipping and billing purposes, and to verify either the purchase or the delivery. This collection is for purchasing the Service. 

In addition, a customer’s name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number, and other application information such as your account transactions and experiences with us (such as your payment history), and information from other third parties will be used for the following limited purposes:

1.      Customer Satisfaction – Canadian Homeownership strives to ensure that the purchasers of our products are completely satisfied with their Canadian Homeownership products, and all aspects of the purchase process. Accordingly, the personal information identified above may also be used for purposes of monitoring and ensuring customer satisfaction, including trouble shooting problems and resolving disputes and better understanding your financial needs for Post-Sale Marketing Purposes, below.

2.      Post-Sale Marketing Purposes – The personal information identified above may also be used to keep past and current customers informed of new products and promotions at Canadian Homeownership, including catalogues and service calls. Anchor

3.      Detection and Prevention of Fraud – We may use personal information regarding customers in order to detect and protect us against error, fraud, or other criminal activity. We may share this information with governmental agencies or other companies assisting us in fraud prevention or investigation. We may do so when:

a.      Permitted or required by law;

b.      Trying to protect against or prevent actual or potential fraud or unauthorized activity; or,

c.       Investigating fraud that has already taken place.

3.      Collection of Personal Information: Using the Service

Canadian Homeownershipwill only collect personal information by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonably intrusive manner. As a general rule, the personal information that Canadian Homeownershipcollects will be limited to that which is necessary for the purposes that are identified for their collection.

Canadian Homeownershipwill not collect personal information from individuals under the age of 18. 

Canadian Homeownership will not collect information about your specific bank accounts, branch numbers or any banking passwords. It is your decision to enter in this information as a result of naming your accounts. This information is not necessary for use of the Service.

Some of the Services on our Site will require you to enter in data about your personal financial situation, current employment situation, your credit information along with potentially personal identifiable information such as your address, city, phone number and email address.  The purpose of this collection is to ensure that the Services provide you with the correct information based on your province of residence, to provide you with a means of recovering your password and login information, and to provide you with other benefits of the Service.

Canadian Homeownership may make anonymous or aggregate personal information analysis and disclose such data only in a non-personally identifiable manner to:

a.      Advertisers and other third parties for their marketing and promotional purposes, such as the number of users who applied for a credit card or how many users clicked on a particular offer or advertisement;

b.      Affiliates that have potential products to market and are deciding on whether or not Canadian Homeownership Customers are the right fit for their product.

4.      Use of Personal Information

Canadian Homeownershipwill only use your personal information for the purposes for which it was collected in order to perform the Service, or otherwise required by law.

 

As part of providing you with real estate products or services, Canadian Homeownership will obtain information about you from the following sources:

a.      Forms and other information that you provide to Canadian Homeownership whether in writing, in person, by telephone, electronically, or by any other means. This information may include your name, address, employment information, income, expenses, assets, liabilities, credit score, date of birth, marital status, personal goals, and the like. 

b.      Your transaction with Canadian Homeownership, Canadian Homeownership’s affiliates, or others. This information may include your account balances, payment history, and account usage.

c.       Public sources. This information may include real estate records and telephone numbers, etc.

 

5.      Disclosure of Personal Information

Canadian Homeownershipwill not sell or rent your personal information to third parties outside of Canadian Homeownershipand its related affiliates unless you authorize us to do so. In accordance with our service terms and the terms set out when purchasing a service from Canadian Homeownership, information you enter into Canadian Homeownership may be accessed by Canadian Homeownership Representatives and products or services based on your situation, in other words, suitable products, may be marketed to you. All Canadian Homeownership Representatives are also bound by strict privacy rules.

Your information will not be shared outside of Canadian Homeownership unless consent is given by you, which does apply when registering for certain services on our Site such as becoming an Optionee/Tenant, listing a property, becoming an Optionor/Landlord, or becoming an Investor. Registering for such services and use of such services requires disclosure of your personal information as needed to other users.

Canadian Homeownership may transfer such information in the course of a proposed or actual corporate sale, divestiture, merger, dissolution, or transfer of all or a portion of a business or operating unit, etc.

You acknowledge that Canadian Homeownership’s parent corporation is located in Canada and, accordingly, your information may be processed and stored in Canada and that the Canadian governments, courts or law enforcement agencies may be able to obtain disclosure of your information through lawful means in Canada. We may also disclose this information for the Detection and Prevention Fraud, below.

Please note that Canadian Homeownership will continue to abide by this Privacy Policy, as well as all applicable privacy laws, in respect of the information transferred.

Notwithstanding the foregoing, Canadian Homeownership reserves the right (and you authorize Canadian Homeownership) to share or disclose your personal information when Canadian Homeownership determines, in its sole discretion, that the disclosure of such information is necessary or appropriate:

a.      To enforce our rights against you or in connection with a breach by you of this Privacy and Security Policy or the Site Terms of Use;

b.      To prevent prohibited or illegal activities; or

c.       When required by any applicable law, rule regulation, subpoena or other legal process.

6.      Retention

Canadian Homeownershipwill only retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected, and as required or otherwise permitted by law. The retention of personal information is dealt with below.

Canadian Homeownershipwill retain your personal information, including credit card information, for as long as it is required under tax legislation to keep business records (which may be up to 7 years), and upon the expiry of which all credit card information will be destroyed.

7.      Changes to Your Personal Information

If your Personal Information changes, specifically your email address, phone number, or province of residence, during your use of Canadian Homeownership Service, you may update it any time via the Service.

8.      Changing Your Personal Data

The information you input into the Service via the Site is based on how thoroughly you want to use the Service. Your data is yours and therefore you can remove it anytime you want. When you request us to delete your account for the Service, your data will be permanently expunged from our primary production servers and further access to your account will not be possible. Portions of your data, consisting of aggregate data derived from your Account Information, may remain on our production servers indefinitely. Your data may also remain on a backup server or media. Canadian Homeownership keeps these backups to ensure our continued ability to provide the Service to you in the event of malfunction or damage to our primary production servers. We also reserve the right to use any aggregated or anonymous data derived from or incorporating your personal information.

 

9.      Improving Your Experience Online

When you visit CanadianHomeownership.com, we may collect technical and navigational information, such as computer browser type, Internet protocol address, pages visited, and average time spent on the Site. This information may be used, for example, to alert you to software compatibility issues, or it may be analyzed to improve our Web design and functionality.

“Cookies” are alphanumeric identifiers in the form of text files that are inserted and stored by your Web browser on your computer’s hard drive. Canadian Homeownership may set and access cookies on your computer to track and store preferential information about you. Canadian Homeownership may gather information about you through cookie technology. Please note that most Internet browsers will allow you to stop cookies from being stored on your computer and to delete cookies stored on your computer. If you choose to eliminate cookies, the full functionality of the Service may be impaired for you. We encode our cookies so that only we can interpret the information stored in them.

Web beacons are images embedded in a Web page or email for the purpose of measuring and analyzing site usage and activity. Canadian Homeownership, or third party service providers acting on our behalf, may use Web beacons to help us analyze Site usage and improve the Service.

10.  Third Party Products and Services

There are a number of separate products and services offered by third parties and Canadian Homeownership Affiliates advertised on the Site and throughout use of the Service, which are done so to enhance your experience with Canadian Homeownership such as lenders, banks, accountants, realtors, credit card issuers, investment opportunities, and brokerage institutions. If you choose to use these separate products or services, disclose information to the providers, or grant them permission to collect information about you, then their use of your information is governed by their privacy policies, of which you should read and accept at your own risk. Canadian Homeownership is not responsible for their privacy practices. Canadian Homeownership may present links to third party products and/or services in a format that enables us to keep track of whether these links have been followed and whether any action has been taken on a third party Web site.

11.  Listings on the Site

If you use, as a result of becoming a registered user, a listing service on our Site, you should be aware that information you submit will be posted in whole or in part on the public view site whereby it can be read, collected or used by other users and could be used to send you unsolicited messages. We are not responsible for the personal information you choose to submit and it is up to you to decide whether or not you wish to pursue the services.

12.  Email Communications

Canadian Homeownership provides Customers with emails as required and as mediums to recover lost passwords or user logins.  Should you wish to opt-out of any email campaign you can do so by contacting Customer.Service@CanadianHomeownership.com.  Opting out in this manner will not end transmission of service-related emails, such as email alerts.

Emails are also sent to registered users on the site that have active listings. Emails will be sent to you when a user responds to your listing. They will not be given your personal email address or contact name or other information provided by you, unless you include these in your comment or additional information section. Once communication has been established between you and the other user, it is up to you to disclose your contact information to the other user. In this means of email communication, Canadian Homeownership is a medium to join two parties together to establish initial contact.

13.  Security

Canadian Homeownershiptakes its responsibility to protect the privacy and confidentiality of customer information very seriously. Canadian Homeownershipmaintains physical, electronic, and procedural safeguards that comply with applicable legal standards to store and secure information about you from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure and destruction. Canadian Homeownership’s control policies, for example, authorize access to customer information only by individuals who need access to do their work.

We use a combination of firewall barriers, encryption techniques and authentication procedures, among others, to maintain the security of your online session and to protect CanadianHomeownership.com accounts and systems from unauthorized access.

When you register for the Service, Canadian Homeownership requires a password from you for your privacy and security. Canadian Homeownership transmits information such as your Purchase Confirmation and Account Login Information for Canadian Homeownership Service and the Site securely.

The server used to store Canadian Homeownership data is in a secure facility where access requires multiple levels of authentication. Security personnel monitor the system 7 days a week, 24 hours a day.

However, it is important to understand that these precautions apply only to our Site and systems. We exercise no control over how your information is stored, maintained or displayed by third parties or on third-party sites.

14.  Your Password

Canadian Homeownership maintains strict rules to help prevent others from guessing your password, which includes making the password unique, containing numbers, letters and special characters. It is recommended that you change your password periodically, which can be done once in the Site under Account Information. Your password must be a minimum of 8 characters in length.

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Login ID and Password. You may not provide these credentials to any third party. If you believe that they have been stolen or been made known to others, you must contact us immediately at Customer.Service@CanadianHomeownership.com, but in any event you should change your password immediately via the Service.

We are not responsible if someone else accesses your account through Personal Information they have obtained from you or through a violation by you of this Privacy and Security Policy or the Site’s Terms of Use.

 

15.  Accuracy

Canadian Homeownershipendeavors to ensure that all personal information collected and retained is accurate, current and complete as necessary for the purposes for which we collect, use or disclose the information.

As it is important that the information be accurate and up-to-date, please inform us of any changes or corrections to your personal information, as soon as possible should you not be able to update your information on the Service.

16.  Access

Subject to the exceptions provided by the applicable law, we will provide you with access to any personal information that we have collected, used or disclosed, upon your written request, within 30 days.

17.  Amendments to Privacy Policy

Canadian Homeownershipregularly reviews its policies and procedures and may revise its Privacy and Security Policy without notice.

In the event of any such amendment, which will be in compliance with the applicable law, the appropriate notice will be posted at the bottom of the amended policy on Canadian Homeownership’s website. Your continued use of our products or websites following the posting of changes to this Privacy and Security Policy will signify your acceptance of those changes.
